Go work. (I tell myself)
Kicking covid’s butt as hard as I smashed this shuttle (after I jumped 😂)
BWF Mexico International Challenge
Thanks @clubwwc and @badminton_mb for hosting a great tournament. Always a pleasure to play! Thanks @friesen.justin for playing doubles and @melanie.cure for playing mixed.
Polish Challenge was a tough one. Two games (singles and doubles) where the win was within reach but slipped through my fingers. Amazing trip full of things to learn and progress made in various aspects. Thankful to be out competing again and I look forward to Mexico Challenge in a couple weeks.
I was quite low on the reserve list here in BWf Orleans Masters Super 100 but I took a leap of faith and I made it into both the singles and the doubles draws!
It’s been amazing to join @badminton_esbjerg! Looking forward to another week.
Biggest tools of an athlete? Coaches, video, athletic therapists, and healthy fuel.
There is lots of work to be done before the next round of tournaments. Both on and off court.
Not my best day at the office yesterday. It is hard to lose, and harder to lose when I was unable to bring anything close to my best game. I found this really humbling and if I am honest, while I walked off the court incredibly driven to come back stronger, I also felt immense shame in my performance. Shame can be debilitating. I didn’t want to be seen again in public, and I had a strong desire to stay in my hotel room doing pushups till I magically had a chance for revenge (cue batman music). Sadly the world does not work that way. We don’t get second chances in the moment, nor do we get to run away. I ended up staying at the venue after my match to sit behind and help coach a friend, and back again in the evening for the same. I got to watch other athletes really pull out their best, the whole time fighting off the inner voice that kept up a constant mockery of the way I played. I did workout in my hotel room, but I also stayed at the venue and watched matches. As hard as I train every day, the self control it took to do that was probably the hardest thing I have done in a long time. Which is weird, right? Every athlete has bad days, and we know that people’s opinions of us are not the defining thing in our identity. But somehow that shame has immense power, at least over me.
Off to Estonia this week. Thankful to be able to train and compete. It’s been a tough week of work and training both - but I hear adversity creates strength.
Happy Holidays everyone! Stay active and enjoy the friends and family you have around!
Sometimes you play your best ever and other days you play the best you can on that day. Those two levels aren’t the same but the effort always is.
There is always work to be done. Let’s get at it 💪💪 happy Monday everyone!
@dynamic_steinbach fixing me up good! Always thankful for Dynamic’s support and sponsorship.
